3rd Girls’ sports leadership camp:

10th – 15th December 2018

*Theme: “Building the girl child’s confidence through sport”

In recent times, the girl child world over has been given special priority for her usefulness and purpose in life.

Amidst the sensitivity and risks surrounded in the general up-bringing of the girl child,special care and attention ought to be granted to this unique species.

For the past three years, the sports women leaders in Uganda under the Ugandan Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation (UWYEF) and the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) joined hands to organize a girl’s sports leadership camp.

The camp is intended among others to help build, enhance and strengthen the young girls (ages at least 7 to 18 years olds) through exposure to high quality organized sports.

In 2016, the camp was held at St Peter’s Girls High school, Nsambya before trans-locating to Gayaza Junior School in the subsequent year.

This time round, the camp returns with a 7-day arrangement, still at Gayaza Junior School.

At least 100 plus young girls are expected to be part of the camp. These young girls have been recruited from various schools across the country.

According to Joy Olinga, the young girls will be empowered with life skills intended to develop skills and build their character.


The girls will meet, listen and interact with acclaimed female sports and business personalities. 
Each child will be expected to meet a financial contribution of Shs 200,000 towards the financing of the budget items. The girls are expected to come with personal items as comb, tooth brush, sports shoes and clothes.

Renown sports personalities as Dorcus Inzikuru, Annet Kabasindi, Leni Shida (all athletes), Faridah Bulega, Hadijah “Lady Mourihoh” Namuyanja (football), Catherine Lamunu, Nakamanya, Dorothy Namusoke, Sheilla Buyungo (volleyball), Linda Wosiya, Moncia Nassuna (basketball), Judith Awujo, Dorothy Nekesa (Rugby), Sandra Namusoke, Irene Blick (Hockey), Rosenburg Kanyunyzi and Judith Awori (Self defence).

Sports bodies as Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA), Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF), Uganda Hockey Association(UHA), Uganda Chess Federation (UCA), Federation of Uganda FootballAssociations (FUFA), Uganda Netball Federation (UNF), Uganda Athletics Federation, Uganda Baseball and Softball Associations ball, Badminton,Taekwondo and Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF).

Over 100 young girls have duly confirmed to take part in the camp that starts on Monday, 10thDecember 2018 and will run until Saturday, 15th December 2018 at Gayaza Junior School.
