Uganda’s second tier side Wakiso Giants Football Club has agreed terms with former Zambian based goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi.
Mugabi has been featuring at Zambia Premier League entity Lusaka Dynamos Football Club until he left late November 2018, citing a breach of his employment contract alongside another Ugandan, Yakubu Ramathan.
Both Mugabi and Yakubu had joined the Zambian side in February 2018 for unreported fees.
Kawowo Sports has learnt that Mugabi has already been paid off ‘handsomely’ in sign-on fees amounting to close to $5,000.
The vastly experienced goalkeeper who formerly featured at Sports Club Villa, KCCA, URA, The Saints and Police in the Uganda top flight league joins the goalkeeping department that has Mansoor Mutumba and Cleo Ssetuba among others.
Wakiso Giants FC who joined forces with former Elgon group FUFA Big league side Kamuli Park took the Ugandan footballing front by surprise with big-man signings in the primary transfer window.
Three thirds of the players signed had previously featured in the Uganda top tier league.
Veteran forward Steven Bengo was released for breach of contract after he absconded from work.
Meanwhile, the club which is coached by former Lweza, Sports Club Villa, URA and Mbarara City head coach is in advanced talks with Police Football Club for a swoop move involving striker Norman Ojik on loan.
Wakiso Giants FC currently leads the Elgon group of the FUFA Big League ahead of the rest of the pack that has top contenders – Kyetume and new comers Light S.S.
