- Vipers SC Vs CS Sfaxien – St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende 4pm
Vipers will hope for better fortunes when they host Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien in the first leg of the final playoff of the Caf Confederation Cup.
The Ugandan champions fell to the second most lucrative competition on the continent after losing 3-0 to CS Constantine of Algeria in the Caf Champions League.
The last continental outing saw them lose 2-0 at Kitende and after a couple days, coach Javier Martinez Espinoza was shown the exit after drawing goalless with Tooro United in the league.
It will be new faces in the dugout with Kenyan Michael Nam Ouma and the returning Edward Golola in charge as the Venoms seek to establish a first leg advantage.
They come into the game confident after whipping Onduparaka 3-0 in the week.
Goalkeeper Bashir Sekagya and fullbacks Denis Okot and Aggrey Madoi are side lined up but good news is the return of skipper Taddeo Lwanga.
The team captain missed the games against CS Constantine and the subsequent league games that followed but returned against Onduparaka
- Vipers have only lost one continental match at home; 2-0 against CS Constantine and was also the first time they conceded.
- Vipers have never won any continental title while CS Sfaxien are four time winners of the Caf Confederation Cup.
The Venoms need goals and thus Daniel Sserunkuma will need to step up along with attacking midfielders Tito Okello, Abraham Ndugwa and Moses Waiswa.
Other key players on the day will be Lwanga, whose solidity in the middle and Halid Lwaliwa as well as Geoffrey Wasswa astute defending will be much needed.
