The first round of the FUFA Big League climaxed on Thursday, 10th January 2019 with 9 matches (four in Elgon and five in Rwenzori group).
High flying Wakiso Giants Football Club despite a home goal-less draw with Arua based Doves All Stars at the Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe, remained top of the Elgon group.


Wakiso Giants has now accumulated 20 points off 10 games (an average of 2 points every match) and have not lost a single match.
Second places Doves All Stars keep up the momentum before the anticipated kick off of the second in 12 day’s time.
In other Elgon group matches, third places Kyetume closed gap on the leading pack with a home 2-1 win over Entebbe.
Alex Isabirye’s side recovered from a goal down to triumph in the match.

Rashid ‘Kudra’ Matovu gave Allan Kabonge’s charges the lead before Kyetume recovered to score through veteran Vincent Kayizzi and serial scorer Ibrahim Kazindula.
Kataka fell 1-0 at home to visiting Jinja Municipal Council (JMC) Hippos at the San Siro play ground in Mbale, thanks to Ibrahim Nsimbe’s strike.
Bukedea Town Council edged Amuka Bright Stars 1-0 at the Emokori play ground whilst Steven Bogere’s UPDF overcame newcomers Nebbi Central 2-0 at the Bombo Army military stadium.
Under the Rwenzori group, Ivan Bogere scored his 7th goal of the season as Proline recovered from a goal down to beat Kabale Sharp 3-1 at the Star Times Stadium, Lugogo.
Proline now bosses the Rwenzori group with 23 points fetched in 10 matches.
Edison Nkahebwa gave Viallai Bainomugisha’s side the lead in the first half.
Proline replied through Bogere, Bright Anukani (penalty) and James Begesa for the maximum points.
Now Shafik Bisaso’s side leads Rwenzori group with 23 points, two better than second placed Kiboga Young.
Kiboga Young lost ground following a one all draw away to Kira United at the Mandela National Stadium.
Masindi based Dove, a newly promoted side coached by Mark Twinamatisko won 1-0 at their Katushabe ground – thanks to Bright Haguma’s winner.
Three clubs shall be be promoted to the Star Times Uganda Premier League by the close of business for the FUFA Big league in May 2019.
The two clubs per group (Elgon and Rwenzori) land direct tickets to the top tier division but the third one is determined via a promotional play off.
