
A 22 man Uganda national golf team has been named by Uganda Golf Union (UGU).
This followed a tedious 72 holes action in the qualifiers held at Entebbe and Uganda Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
It is a new look side that had 15 new faces who made the cut.
Mehta Golf Club’s Joel Basalaine is the new national captain and he will be deputized by Tooro Club’s Joseph Chinywai.
The new players on the side include; Michael Alunga, Rodell Gaita Tadeo, Emmanuel Jakisa, Ibrahim Aliga, Godfrey Nsubuga, Noah Waibi, Rogers Eyoyo, Hussein Alemega, James Koto, Emmanuel Moko, Ibrah Bagalana, Bruhan Matovu, Reagan Akena, Joseph Kanonera and Innocent Okecha.
Nsubuga and Akena are the youngest with 14 years apiece as Eyoyo (15) also makes the team.

A total of 119 golfers registered for the qualifiers. Eighty golfers took part in the first round and 43 in the second round.
These are the 22 players that have made it for the national team and will be representing us at various tournaments in the year 2019. We are also introducing an Order of Merit starting for the first union event tournament on the calendar where we shall be ranking our players respectively ahead of major international tournaments

Upcoming Tournaments
Uganda is set to participate in the All Africa Junior Golf Championship to be hosted by Botswana Golf Union in March 2019.
Uganda will also take part in the annual Victoria Cup (in June at the Uganda Golf Club), the Zone IV Golf Tournament (Burundi, in August ) as well as and the Africa Amateur Golf Championship (Mauritius, in October).
Former captain Becca Mwanja as well as Deco Herman Mutawe are seeking greener pastures in the professional ranks.
