Hardly had the board of Express Football Club announced former Uganda Cranes international Hassan ‘Figo’ Mubiru among the members of their technical team than Katwe United FC come out to categorically clear the status of the coach.

Through a press statement issued on Wednesday, the management of Katwe United Football Club insists that Mubiru remains their head coach despite being named on a three-man technical team to steer Express along George Ssemwogerere (Head coach) and James Magala (Assistant).

Mubiru was announced as a trainer at Express Football Club to work with Ssemwogerere and Magala as replacements for the departed technical wing that was led by Kefa Kisala.

Katwe United FC has received with concern , false information making rounds in the social media that our club tactician, Hassan Mubiru has left us and returned to his former club, Express FC. This information is not true and is misleading.

However the same statement acknowledges that Express FC had days ago officially approached Katwe United for the services of Mubiru which was granted on condition he is merely a trainer.

Express approached us (Katwe United) for Mubiru as their trainer. For the progress of the game in the country, we didn’t object, on an understanding that he remains our coach

A christened club legend at Express, Mubiru has also previously served at the Red Eagles as a forwards’ trainer and fitness coach for close to two seasons under the coaches Mathias Lule, Wasswa Bbosa, Douglas Bamweyana and Edward Kalungi.

He left with the arrival of Kisala at the beginning of the season, joining Katwe United, a regional side after signing a three-year employment contract on 13th August 2018.

It remains to be seen which of the two clubs (Express and Katwe United) will own the coach, arguably believed to among the finest footballers to grace the field of play in Uganda.
