UCU Lady Cardinals defense of the FUFA Women’s Cup did not go past the first match of the 2019 edition.

The Lady Cardinals suffered a 3-1 defeat to Kawempe Muslim as the Round of 32 of the knockout competition commenced on Saturday, February 9.

Goals from Anita Namata, Aisha Nantongo and substitute Samalie Nakachwa propelled Kawempe Muslim, who for all their dominance of women’s football are yet to win the cup now in its third edition.

Ruth Aturo’s failure to deal with a teasing ball from left-back Grace Aluka gifted the four-time league champions with the opener that was scored by Namata.

Nantongo doubled the lead for Kawempe fifteen minutes into the second half through a freekick.

Skipper Maureen Kinavudori pulled one back for the home side fifteen minutes from time but Nakachwa put the game beyond UCU in the 88th minute.

At the round of 16, Kawempe Muslim is joined by Devine Girls who edged Rines SS and 2017 winners Olila High who got a walkover after Amuria High failed to turn up.

The round of 32 continues on Sunday with eight fixtures with She Corporates versus Ajax Queens the pick of the day.
