Zimbabwe got off to winning ways in the Victoria Series with a narrow seven-run win over Kenya.
Kenya won the toss and choose to field but Zimbabwe openers made them toil in the heat as they put on a 52 run opening stand till a mix up in the middle led to its collapse.
Kenya able to regroup and prevent building a big total as they kept them at 103/8 in their 20 overs.
The chase for Kenya didn’t start well with the dependable Queentor Abel losing her wicket quickly but the second wicket stand of Mary Wambui and Captain Margaret Banja repaired the damage as they took the game to Zimbabwe.
However, once Wambui was dismissed the remaining 8 wickets struggled to chase down the total as Kenya was stopped at 96/9 in their 20 overs.
There was no rest for Kenya as their Migingo derby rivals Uganda were in wait for the afternoon game.
Again, Kenya won the toss and choose to field first.
Uganda was tentative in their approach reaching the stage with 50 runs on from 10 overs.
Only Consy Aweko was able to seize the initiative and take the game to the Kenyans as all the other batsmen didn’t make any notable scores. Uganda finally put on 112 all out with an over to spare.
The Ugandan bowling was in no generous mood as they tightened the rope around the Kenyans and they could only manage 75 all out in 15 overs.
Consy Aweko was clear stand out for Uganda scoring 22 not out and also giving away only 10 runs in her 4 overs.
Action continues tomorrow as Uganda will take on both Kenya and Zimbabwe in Lugogo.
