On paper, the matchup between KCCA Leopards and Makerere Sparks was never a contest.

However, the university side tried to make it one as Leopards took time to find their rhythm for a 93-50 runaway victory on Wednesday.

A flurry of threes from Ruth Nangiro and lay-ups from Aziida Nabayunga in the opening ten minutes at YMCA gave Sparks an 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Lillian Adera’s 3-pointer to start the second quarter was cancelled by Rose Basemera as MUK matched KCCA for the better part of the frame but once player of the match Cynthia Irakunda put KCCA ahead with a lay-up with just over two minutes to play, the Leopards never looked back.

The former champions followed their 16-11 second quarter with a dominant performance after the long break as Makerere ran out of legs.

A 32-12 third quarter was followed by a 28-9 fourth quarter as the Leopards bounced back from the opening day defeat to JKL Lady Dolphins.

KCCA’s shooting guard Judith Nansobya scored 18 points to lead all scorers, Leticia Awor had 18 while Beryl Aoko, Irankunda and Joy Chemtai contributed 14, 12 and 10 points respectively.

Nangiro and Nabayunga logged team high 14 points each for Sparks. Basemera was the other player toreach double figure scoring with 10 points.

Makerere will return to action on Sunday, April 21 against Angels while KCCA will battle rivals UCU Lady Canons on Saturday, April 27.
