JKL Lady Dolphins unbeaten run in the 2019 Women’s National Basketball League came under threat on Friday night.

UCU Lady Canons were on course to end the champions’ winning streak only to collapse in the fourth quarter as Lady Dolphins recorded their tenth consecutive win.

Lady Canons had a four-point (17-13) advantage after the first quarter and pushed it to as big as 8 the second but Lady Dolphins kept them within reach and trailed by just five going into the halftime break.

A 9-2 run to start the third quarter took UCU’s lead to double figures two minutes in but JKL fought back only to trail by 6 points (53-47) heading into the fourth quarter.

Skipper Flavia Oketcho opened the fourth quarter from downtown, Stella Oyella added a lay-up followed by a foul shot and the deficit was wiped out. Peace Nakirijja hit a go-ahead 3-pointer and the Lady Dolphins never trailed again as UCU’s scoring drought dragged on for nearly six minutes.

With just over four minutes to play, Ritah Imanishimwe who had a poor shooting night sunk a 3-pointer that took JKL’s lead to 62-54 and iced the game.

Flavia Oketcho and Jamila Nansikombi paced Lady Dolphins off the bench with 14 and 12 points respectively, player of the game Hope Akello had 14 points and 8 rebounds, Ritah Imanishimwe contributed 13 points and Peace Nakirijja added 11 points in the team effort.
