- Tanzania 113/9 Monica Pascal 53 | Joyce Mary Apio (2/19) beat Uganda 108/9 Esther Ilukor 36, Rita Musamali 19 | Prince Zakayo (3/14) by 5 runs
The Lady Cricket Cranes failed to chase down 113 set by tournament debutants Tanzania who recorded a 5 run win.
Tanzania is making its maiden appearance at the Kwibuka Peace Tournament which got ICC T20 International Status.
Tanzania won the toss and chose to bat first with opener Monica Pascal (53) anchoring her team’s innings scoring a fluid half-century.
Joyce Mary Apio was the pick of the Ugandan bowlers picking up 2/19. Tanzania finished on 113/9 in their 20 overs.
In the chase, Uganda lost opener Damalie Busingye cheaply without scoring a run and the slow scoring didn’t help matters as Uganda fell behind the asking rate for most of the game.
Only Captain Rita Musamali (19) and Esther Ilukor (34) managed some decent scores as they fell short by 5 runs.
The loss means the Lady Cricket Cranes will need to win all their remaining games if they are to be able to win the tournament.
The Lady Cricket Cranes will take on hosts Rwanda tomorrow afternoon.
