Warriors maintained their unbeaten start to the 2019-20 Nile Special Stout Rugby Premier League after coming from behind to beat Jinja Hippos 26-20 on Saturday thanks to Richard Kinyai’s near-perfect kicking.

Robert Sseguya may be a conservative coach but his Jinja Hippos are still expansive and played beautiful rugby in the early kickoff at Legends.

Hippos put Warriors under early pressure and were shortly rewarded with a penalty but Timothy Mugisha missed from point-blank range.

It was not long before the visitors who kept Warriors on the back foot got on the scoreboard. The hosts were again penalized for offside, John Echeru scratched and offloaded to James Mukwasi who ran through for the first try and Denis Etwau added extras. Hippos went up 10-00 with another penalty.

Richard Kinyai put Warriors on the board with two penalties before Etwau extended Hippos lead to 13-06 going into the halftime break.

Right after the resumption, David Otwii’s charge down yielded results as he scored Warriors’ only try of the game but Kinyai’s conversion was wide but moments later put his side ahead with a long penalty.

Hippos went into attack putting together several phases before Etwau grounded at the posts. He added extras on his try for Hippos to take a 20-14 lead.

Kinyai drew Warriors level with a couple of penalties before putting the side ahead with a drop goal. The full-back capped his man of the match performance with another penalty that all but sealed the win for Warriors.
