Rajiv Ruparelia has shown intent with an impressive performance during day one of Mbarara Rally.
In a Volkswagen Polo Proto, Ruparelia and Enock Olinga posted the fasted times on the opening day of the season.
Rajiv topped the first stage of the event and shared the super special stage with Ponsiano Lwakataka, each winning one run.
The National Rally Championship rookie covered the stages in a total time of 13 minutes, 17 seconds and 74 microseconds.
Lwakataka came second, 13 seconds behind Rajiv and Duncan Mubiru completed the top three and was 38 seconds behind day one leader.
Ronald Sebuguzi and Omar Mayanja completed the opening day’s top five.
The crews will tackle four stages on the final day covering a total competitive distance of 150.40km.
Although Rajiv holds a 13-second lead, the battle for the event victory remains tight between top drivers as Lwakataka, Mayanja, Mubiru, and Sebuguzi.
Notably, some top drivers in the country as reigning NRC champion Yasin Nasser, last season’s event winner Jas Mangat as well as 2015 champion Arthur Blick missed the season-opening really.
