The 2019 National Basketball League finalists UCU Canons and UCU Lady Canons could miss the 2021 season.
With the league tentatively set to tip-off on April 2, Uganda Christian University has not confirmed the participation of their sides Canons and Lady Canons.
Nick Natuhereza, the head coach of the two teams, has real fears that the clubs could be relegated as per the rules and says it would be a catastrophe if that happened.
“There is a possibility that our Canons will not take part in the league this year which means that we are likely to be relegated as per the rules,” said Natuhereza.
According to basketball governing body FUBA, only UCU Canons haven’t confirmed participation in the Men’s Division while Lady Canons are among the four yet to confirm in the Women’s Division of the league.
“I can’t begin to imagine the ripple effects of not playing,” Natuhereza adds. “Considering the kind of season we had in 2019, it would be only fair that we figure out something very soon.
“Right now we are hopefully waiting. I don’t even want to think about the possibility of not playing because it will be sad if we end up not being part of the league this year.”
