KCCA FC have endured a tough run in the first round of the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League campaign and find themselves nine points off table leaders URA FC (36 points) at the halfway mark.

Defeat to direct title rivals Vipers SC on Wednesday meant KCCA FC lost their fourth game this season and can only account for 27 of the 45 points in the 15 games played so far.

Kawowo Sports’ Joel Muyita looks at how KCCA FC have been performing in the first round games since Mutebi returned to the club in 2015.

The Lugogo-based side made a perfect start to this season, winning the opening three games (against Soltilo Bright Stars FC, Mbarara City FC and Onduparaka FC). However, this was followed by a blotch that saw them pick just a point in the subsequent four league games, coupled with elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup at the Preliminary round by AS Kigali.

Whereas key players such as Sadat Anaku and Gift Ali were out injured, joining the list of absentees like Julius Poloto and John Revita, that could was not an excuse according to coach Mike Mutebi.

The dip in form of Brian Aheebwa who scored 7 goals in the opening 5 games has since failed to find the back of the net.

Whereas Mutebi vehemently disagrees that the quality of players in the current squad is short of their rivals such as Vipers SC, URA FC and Express FC, it’s been evident at least judging from the games KCCA FC has played against the aforementioned teams.

KCCA FC 1-2 URA FC

Express FC 1-1 KCCA FC

Vipers SC 1-0 KCCA FC

The 27 points that KCCA FC have in the opening 15 league games in the lowest Mutebi has collected since re-joining the club.
