It is a blend of offensive and defensive-minded players in the starting eleven of the Uganda Cranes to face Burkina Faso during round 5 of the AFCON 2021 qualifiers at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Head coach Abdallah Mubiru, his assistant Charles Livingstone Mbabazi and the rest of the backroom crew have combined ideas and concurred on a number of decisions.

As expected, veteran goalkeeper and captain Denis Onyango stands in between in the goalposts.

Azam’s diligent player Nicholas Wadada and TP Mazembe’s Joseph Benson Ochaya are at the right and left back positions respectively.

In central defensive midfield, the duo of Simba Sports Club’s Taddeo Lwanga and New Mexico United’s Mike Azira will form the shield in the highly sensitive department.

Pacy winger Abdul Lumala of Pyramids Football Club in Egypt starts his first home game.

Lumala’s first home game has been far from being achieved following a combination of factors that ranged from immigration issues to injury setbacks.

The trio of Emmanuel Arnold Okwi, Faruku Miya, and Patrick Henry Kaddu are the forwards.

The goalkeeping duo of Salim Jamal Magoola and Charles Lukwago are the two substitute options.

Other waiting players are Swedish-based defender Ronald Mukiibi Ddungu, Elvis Bwomono (South End United, UK), Mustafa Kizza, Allan Okello, Moses Waiswa, Ibrahim Orit, Yunus Sentamu, Daniel Isiagi Opolot, Fahad Bayo, and William Luwagga Kizito.

As many as five replacements are now permitted as per the new laws of the game after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The match will be officiated by FIFA Referees from Gambia.

With points from 4 matches, Uganda Cranes lie second in group B on 7 points, one adrift from Burkina Faso.

Maximum points for the home side will mean that the qualification to AFCON finals in Cameroon will be as good as done owing to a final group game away to Malawi on Monday, 29th March 2021.
