Gaddafi players overjoyed after scoring one of the 11 goals against Mutai United

2021 FUFA Big League – Match Day 1 (Thursday, 25th March 2021) -All matches kick off at 4 PM:

Elgon Group:

  • Gaddafi Vs Mbale Heroes – Kyabazinga Stadium, Jinja
  • Arua Hill Vs Black Power – Barifa ground
  • Maroons Vs Paidha Black Angels – Prisons Stadium, Luzira
  • Calvary Vs Kataka – Green Light Stadium, Arua

Rwenzori Group:

  • Ndejje University Vs Nyamityobora – Arena of Visions
  • Luweero United Vs Terrazo and Tiles – Luweero
  • Proline Vs Kigezi Home Boyz – MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo
  • Tooro United Vs Water – Buhinga Stadium, Fort Portal

The long awaited 2021 FUFA Big League takes center stage on Thursday, 25th March 2021 with 8 matches lined up across the different corners of the country.

This comes after a long period of uncertainty that arose because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Four games apiece will be played in each of the two groups; Elgon and Rwenzori.

The Gaddafi versus Mbale Heroes contest at the Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe, Jinja will headline the Elgon group contests.

Free spending Gaddafi, under head coach Frank Ssebaggala targets maximum points on home soil as they embark on a journey to the Uganda Premier League.

Ssebaggala will face Bobic Odowa at Mbale Heroes, an entity that has recently rebranded from Kiboga Young.

“Since we got promoted from the regional league, we have prepared well with recruitments, training sessions and friendly matches. The team is ready to deliver at the big stage where every match is a cup final” Ssebaggala disclosed.

In experienced strikers Joel Madondo and Patrick Gonahasa, Gaddafi has two potent forwards ready to cause havoc to any opposition backline.

Midfielder Mark Bamukyaaye, utility dreadlocked Ibrahim Massa, left back Thomas Ochungo and goalkeeper Paul Mujwapani are other players of substance for the army funded side.

Mbale Heroes also has a couple of experienced players as former BUL midfielder Jamaldine Buchochera, utility player Stephen Makumba (goalkeeper and forward), the immensely gifted Rashid Kudra Matovu, among others.

Other matches:

The other three Elgon group matches will witness Arua Hills host Black Powers at the Barifa Stadium in Arua.

Arua Hills is also another free spending entity that has hired the likes of tried and tested players as Dan Birikwalira, Ceaser Okhuti, Gaddafi Gadihno among others.

In Kampala, former top flight sides Maroons and Paidha Black Angels will lockhorns at the Prisons stadium, Luzira.

Maroons is coached by Charles Ayiekho Lukula and has retained most of the players who featured in the UPL last season as Pius “TZ Iniesta” Obuya, Ronald Orombi, Solomon Walusimbi and others.

Yumbe based Calvary will play host to Mbale’s Kataka at the Green Light Stadium in Arua.

Calvary will dwell upon talisman Talib Asega for the much needed inspiration at home whilst Kataka’s Peter Lusimbula, Swamadu Okullu are some of the players that head coach Godfrey “Toldo” Awachwango will depend upon.

Rwenzori Group:

Edward Golola officially starts his reign at Tooro United with a home game against Water at the Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal.

Golola is expected to name a formidable side that will fight for maximum points at home with players as Eric Akol, Marvin Kase, Patrick Kasule, Adrian Sserugo, Ponsiano Ssegonja and others all expected to feature.

Elsewhere, a star studded Proline will entertain Mark Twinamatisko’s Kigezi Home Boyz at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Proline has the likes of Diego Hamis Kiiza, Brian Umony, Noordin Bunjo, Ibrahim Bonyo and others.

Kigezi Home Boyz also consists of vastly experienced players like the towering Pascal Irasa, Philemon Lutaaya, Bright Haguma, Samarie Farouq as well as the Robert duo of Baluku and Katongole, among others,

Two newly promoted clubs Luweero United and Terrazo & Tiles will square up in Luweero.

At the same time, two former Uganda Premier League sides Ndejje University and Nyamityobora shall face off at the Arena of Visions playground in Ndejje.

By the end of the regular season, two teams will be promoted directly to the 2021-22 Uganda Premier League.

The respective leaders from the Rwenozori and Elgon group earn direct slots to the highest tier league in the country.

The third club is determined via a promotional play ground that involves four clubs (two apiece from Rwenzori and Elgon groups).

Besides the efforts of the individual clubs, the FUFA Big League is bank rolled by StarTimes, just like the main top division.
