Cesar Manzoki in action

Uganda Cup 2021 (Round of 32 – 1st Leg)

  • Vipers 3-0 Busoga United

It is advantage Vipers Sports Club ahead of the return leg for the round of 32 Uganda Cup competition.

The Venoms were ruthless as they brushed aside Busoga United 3-0 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Easter Monday.

Congolese born striker Cesar Manzoki netted a brace and Ibrahim Orit found the other for Fred Kajoba Kisitu’s coached side.

Orit broke the resilience of the visitors with a well headed goal off a curling corner kick by Disan Galiwango three minutes off the half hour mark.

Daniel Sserunkuma (left) battles for the ball against Gerald Bagoole.

Manzoki carried on his recent vein of form with a header from another Galiwango assist, a cross from the left wing in the 47th minute.

The towering striker had earlier missed a chance to tap from 25 yards after a well laid ball from Richard Basangwa in the 40th minute.

Second half substitute Dan Sserunkuma combined with Manzoki for the third goal past goalkeeper Rogers Omedwa on the stroke of full-time.

Busoga United got three cautions in the game to Shafik Kakeeto, Franco Magero Balabala and Jeromy Kirya.

The return leg will be held on Friday, 9th April 2021 at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Vipers get the return leg with advantage and will need a draw, a clear cut win or a loss of less than three goals to progress whilst Busoga United will need a victory of more than four goals without response or a 3-0 win in normal time (and victory in shoot out).

We played very well and carried on the winning mentality. Vipers is Vipers, we win every game in our midst. We needed a comfortable win such that when we face them in the return leg, we are as good as dusted.

Fred Kajoba Kisitu, Vipers head coach

We played very well but failed to score. We need to solve the grey areas before the return leg will be held at our home.

Abbey Kikomeko Bogere, Busoga United head coach
