Mbarara City Football Club head coach Charles Livingstone Mbabazi has in a special way appreciated the loyal fans for the encouragement, belief, and motivation during their 2-1 home win over Malaba Youth Development Association (MYDA) at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara city.
Mbabazi, also Uganda Cranes assistant coach was humbled for the character of the fans as they kept encouraging the team until they got a last-minute gasp winner via Uganda U-20 international Raymond Derrick Onyai.
“I want to thank the character of the fans for their encouragement when we played MYDA. The positive attitude and belief pushed the players throughout the match. I would love to appreciate their efforts,” the former Uganda Cranes midfielder disclosed.
During the match against MYDA, Mbarara City squandered a goal lead before scoring a late – late goal through Onyai.
Midfielder Solomon Okwalinga put the Ankole Lions ahead five minutes into the game.
The lead was neutralized by Mark Bassi’s equalizer on the half hour mark.
With the match destined for a draw, Onyai scored in the 87th minute to give the home side maximum points.
The game marked a colourful debut for former Vipers and Gor Mahia wide-man Innocent Wafula.
After attaining his license an hour to kick-off, Wafula made the 18 man squad and given playing time, coming on for Swalik Bebe Ssegujja in the 52nd minute.
Mbarara City visits the Betway Mutesa II Wankulukuku Stadium this Saturday, 17th April 2021 to face Express.
