  • Nile Special Stout Rugby Premier League – Matchday Six
  • Result: Buffaloes 10-12 Black Pirates

Black Pirates Rugby Club were happy to leave Kyadondo with a win after surviving a late charge from Buffaloes in the second half of the match.

Pirates took an early 12-00 lead from two tries by Ivan Kabagambe and Ivan Magomu. But Buffaloes put points on the board just before half time through Donald Oketayot’s successful penalty.

Buffaloes then went on the offensive in the second half after the introduction of Kevin Makmot. With Makmot’s crafty kicking, the hosts kept their opponents pinned deep in their territory.

This set up a nail biting climax to the game as Pirates chased the bonus point and Buffaloes staged a comeback. And it was the Buffaloes that nearly pulled it off.

Winger Vincent Okello scored Buffaloes’ only try, beating the Pirates’ backs for pace from a chip & chase kick. Makmot could have handed Buffaloes the lead and the win late in the match, but his long attempt from the tee sailed just wide of the uprights.

Buffaloes thus earned a losing bonus point that puts them in a strong midtable position. Pirates may not be satisfied with four points from the win but they will be glad to have earned them after that Makmot near-miss.
