- Nile Special Stout Rugby Premier League – Matchday Seven
- Result: Mongers 12-66 Kobs
Joseph Aredo ran the show at the lakeside House of Pain in Entebbe as Kobs wiped out Mongers during the Nile Special Stout Rugby Premier League on Saturday.
Aredo had 100% kicking accuracy from 8 attempts off the tee to inspire the league leaders to a humongous 66-12 victory.
The fly-half, playing in his first match since returning from national duty with the Uganda Sevens in Dubai, got the scoreboard ticking almost immediately with a penalty kick in the second minute. By the twentieth, Kobs had already bagged the bonus point courtesy of tries from Brian Odongo, Byron Oketayot and Robert Aziku.
Mongers could only respond to this flood of tries with a Brian Kamanyire penalty.
However, Daudi Semwami reopened the gates with a try in the corner before Pius Ogena killed the hosts off with his own just before half time. Kobs thus led 45-03 at half time with another display of impenetrable defense.
Mongers appeared to have changed strategies during the break as they struck first in the second half off Kamanyire’s boot but that was only shortlived.
Tries from Conrad Mukwaya, Saul Kivumbi and Trevor Maina turned Mongers’ situation from bad to worse as they couldn’t stop Kobs from scoring.
Their only consolation were three successful penalties from Kamanyire and Edgar Kairu.
Kobs head coach Davis Kyewalabye attributed this win to his players’ realisation of the fact that they need to win all their games to stand the chance to win the title.
Kobs stay top of the table with two weekends to go, and will entertain Impis Rugby Club in their next match.
