FUFA Women Super League

UCU Lady Cardinals 1-2 Lady Doves

Lady Doves brightened their chances of progressing to the playoffs of this year’s FUFA Women Super League after securing victory over UCU Lady Cardinals on Wednesday.

Despite conceding first in the game, Lady Doves fought back to score twice through leading scorer Fazila Ikwaput.

Nassuna had opened the scores in the 18th minute, converting from the spot when Harriet Muwugumya was fouled in the area.

Her powerful strike went past goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro who had divided to the right side. This was Nassuna’s 89th goal in the league since 2015.

Ikwaput levelled matters in the 31st minute when she capitalized on a miscommunication between Shadia Nankya and goalkeeper Ruth Aturo.

Aturo came off her line but hesitated to commit and Ikwaput took away the ball to slot into an empty net.

In the second half, Lady Doves improved and kept surging forward until they got the second goal.

The decisive moment came in the 75th minute when Nankya brought down Ikwaput in the box and centre referee Anna Akoyi pointed to the spot.

Ikwaput calmed her nerves to slot past goalkeeper Aturo in goal for UCU Lady Cardinals.

Lady Doves moved to 7 points in 3 games and have to play She Corporate on Friday. UCU Lady Cardinals on the other hand still have two games to play (Olila High School and Isra Soccer Academy).
