FUFA Women Super League

Kawempe Muslim 0-1 Lady Doves

Reticia Nabbosa’s strike at the stroke of halftime was the difference as Lady Doves edged past Kawempe Muslim in a closely contested affair played on Monday at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

The midfielder struck home at the death of the clock in the opening stanza with her long range effort going past goalkeeper Juliet Adeke.

Kawempe Muslim had striker Juliet Nalukenge return to the team fold after completing her Senior Six Examinations but she was quiet in the game. She had missed two of the four group games.

The only realistic effort at goal from the 2019 Female Footballer of the year came in the second half but it ricocheted off the cross bar.

Lady Doves despite losing their key player Fazila Ikwaput through injury in the first half, they kept the composure and eventually emerged victorious.

Ikwaput who has so far scored seven goals at the tournament aggravated her knee injury and could not carry on.  She was stretchered off at the 30th minute mark and replaced by Joweria Nagadya.

With two minutes added to the first half, Nabossa took the responsibility and struck home from about 35 yards.

She had yards of space to commit forward but chose to go for power and with Adeke off her goal line, the long range effort sailed into the back of the net.

Kawempe Muslim made several attempts at goal especially in the second half. Hadijja Nandago nearly found the equaliser five minutes after restart but Lady Doves had goalkeeper Daizy Nakaziro to thank.

She was also well stationed to deny Sharon Nadunga who came on in place of Allen Nassazi.

Lady Doves return to the final for the second time. They reached the final during the 2018/19 season but lost to eventual winners UCU Lady Cardinals.
