Kigezi Home Boyz Football Club progressed to the round of 16 stage in the 2021 Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The development followed a 3-1 home loss to visiting Kitara during the return leg of the round of 32 at the Kabale Municipal Stadium on Sunday, 2nd May 2021.
Edison Kasaija struck a brace for Kitara and midfielder Pius Mbidde scored the other.
Dickson Kihanga Niwamanya extended his tournament tally to four goals with a price-less goal that propelled Mark Twinamatisko’s coached side through.
Niwamanya would have scored that fifth goal had his penalty shot not been saved by the Kitara goalkeeper.
At the end of normal time, Kitara won the day but bowed out despite the spirited effort because they had lost 4-2 away during the first leg played at the Kavumba Recreational Stadium.
The aggregate result of 5 goals apiece meant that Kigezi Home Boyz progressed on the famous away goal’s rule.
During the first leg, Niwamanya had scored a hat-trick with Rogers Tabule adding the other in the closing minutes of the match.
Kitara’s captain Maxwell Owadigui and left back Zakayo Kizito found their two goals at Kavumba Recreational stadium.
Kigezi Home Boyz will now face BUL during the round of 16 double legged duels.
BUL hosts the first leg on Wednesday, 5th May 2021 at the Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe in Jinja city during the first leg.
The return leg will be played a couple of days later in Kabale.
Meanwhile, the return leg of the Vipers against UPDF clash at the round of 16 will be played on Monday, 03 May 2021 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Vipers won the first leg 3-1 at the Military Barracks Stadium in Bombo.
Joseph Bright Vuni (own goal), Ibrahim Orit and Ceaser Manzoki found the goals for the Venoms.
Brian Kayanja’s earlier opener turned into a mere consolation.
This season, the Stanbic Uganda Cup only attracted the top tier (Uganda Premier League) and second division clubs because of the raging COVID-19 pandemic.
