CECAFA’s most successful footballing country, Uganda, gets into action against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) during the Group A opener of the 2021 CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup at the Bahir Dar International Stadium on Sunday, 18th July 2021.

Uganda’s team is led by head coach Morley Byekwaso as they eye maximum points in the opener to be guaranteed qualification to the semifinals.

“We are prepared mentally and physically for DR Congo. We expect a good show,” Byekwaso stated.

The team will bank on the experience of KCCA goalkeeper Charles Lukwago, Vipers’ trio of Karim Watambala, Abdu Aziizi Kayondo, and Bobosi Byaruhanga as well as the AFCON U-20 top scorer Derrick Kakooza.

Team captain Enock Walusimbi, the winning skipper for Express in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League noted that their prime target is to win the trophy.

“We came in well and have since settled very fast. The target is to win the trophy and emulate many of the Ugandan teams at the CECAFA tournament. We are set mentally and physically,” Walusimbi disclosed.

The match will be officiated by FIFA Referee Mogos Teklu Tsegay from Eritrea.
