As the second round of the 2021-2022 Uganda Premier League fast approaches, Mbarara City Football Club will have new team leaders.
New head coach Sadiq Sempigi confirmed the new leaders for the players.
Creative midfielder Solomon Okwalinga is the new team captain for the club christened as “Ankole Lions”.
Okwalinga is a proven leader on and off the field of play. He has also earned experience having featured at Synergy, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Onduparaka before he transfered to Mbarara City.
He will be assisted by two holding midfielders Swalik “Bebe” Ssegujja and Pistis Barenge as the first and second assistants respectively.
Vastly experienced goalkeeper Martin Elungat is the fourth captain.
The development comes after the club officially bid farewell to their long serving captain Hilary Mukundane.
Meanwhile, the club confirmed the extension of contract for defender Ronald Otti until the end of the season as well as the mutual termination of contract for offensive midfielder Raymond Derrick Onyai.
Onyai has since returned to his parent club, Kataka FC, a second division entity based in Eastern Uganda, Mbale.
Mbarara City advanced to the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 after out-smarting Bushenyi based Six O’clock 2-1 during the round of 64 stage at Kizinda playground.
