The Uganda Premier League seasonal awards are back with a bang effective the 2021-2022 season after a five-year lapse.
The main funder is Uganda Breweries Limited under the brand of pilsner, also the sponsor of the man of the match as well as the player and coach of the month awards.
The Awards were launched on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Kati Kati Restaurant along Lugogo by-pass in Kampala.
UPL secretariat members led by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bernard Bainamani, chairman of FSSL board Arinaitwe Rugyendo, FUFA’s Executive Committee member Rogers Byamukama and the sponsors’ representatives graced the launch.
The Awards make a return after five years since they were last held in 2016/17 when KCCA striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma won the best player of the season award.
Thirteen 13 categories have been named to reward the best players, coaches and the season’s best team.
These categories include; the most valuable player of the season, top scorer, most assists, best midfielder, defender, goalkeeper, coach, young player, players’ player of the season, best coach, fair play team, UPL best XI and the platinum award.
The platinum award will be given to that explamary player, coach or administrator.
Bainamani confirmed that the different winners will be determined using statistics, a technical panel of judges, selected journalists and fans.
The Player’s player of the Season and Coach’s Player of the season will be determined by the players and head coaches.
The recipients of the award will receive a plaque and a small token of appreciation.
Also, Pilsner Lager is planning to make the recipients the beer company’s brand Ambassadors.
The Uganda Premier League hereby invites many more partners to come on Board to join UBL/Pilsner to give the awards more glamour.
