Group B
Final Games
Uganda vs Ivory Coast – Nelson Mandela Stadium

DR Congo vs Senegal – 19th May 1956 Stadium

Both games kickoff at 10PM (EAT)

Uganda Cranes will be hoping to make history of qualifying to the knockout stage today as they take on Ivory Coast in their final Group B game at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers.

Micho and his charges go into Sunday’s clash top of the table on 4 points and need just to avoid defeat to secure a slot in the last eight.

The coach is aware of the threat that Ivory Coast pose and thus he is not taking anything for granted.

“If you look at their results and the performance on pitch, they should be having more points. Therefore, we are facing a good side capable of hurting us,” Micho said on Saturday.

“We are on the brink of history but the job must be completed today. First game we signed the document, against Senegal we sealed it and it is now time to stamp it to make it official.” He added.

Moses Waiswa, the second assistant captain believes Uganda needs to top the Group if they want to progress further into the tournament.

“We go into Sunday’s game needing all three points because when you top the group, you get a weaker opponent in the next round. Algeria are hosts and top of Group A and you wouldn’t want to face them early in the tournament.”

Uganda has played at CHAN for a record six times but not at one point have they gone beyond the Group stage.

Actually, the win against Senegal on Wednesday was only Uganda’s second at the tournament in 17 attempts, the first coming in 2014 against Burkina Faso.
