Overview:
Mathias Kigonya has had spells in Uganda (Soltilo Bright Stars), Kenya (Sofapaka, two stints and Kakamega Home Boyz), Zambia (Forest Rangers) and Tanzania (Azam)
Goalkeeper Mathias “Kone” Kigonya mutually terminated his employment contract with Kenya premier league giants Sofapaka Sports Club.
This happened less than five months since he had rejoined the side christened as “Batoto Ba Mungu”.
For the better part of the season, he played second fiddle to first choice goalkeeper Kevin Omondi.
In a detailed statement published on his official twitter handle, Kigonya described the brief tenure at the club as a short spell but worth.
I am notifying you about my departure from Sofapaka Football Club. It has been a short spell but worth. I’m excited about the new opportunities ahead of me. However, there is also a big part of me that is sad to be saying goodbye to the amazing Sofapaka family. I am grateful for having had the second chance to work at Sofapaka. I will never forget the kindness and professionalism of everyone at this club. I wish you the best in the reminder of the season.
