Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba claimed a significant victory on Sunday following a seamless race in the season-opening event in Mbarara Rally.
The Moil Rally Crew firmly maintained their day one lead by winning a stage and posting the second fastest times through Sunday’s loop.
The crew later secured victory by 4 minutes and 16 seconds giving their newly acquired Ford Fiesta Rally5 its first victory.
“Mbarara rally has really gone well for us. We got an advantage yesterday and we capitalised on that. For day two, we were trying to keep calm and maintain that lead.
“More to the victory, we have enjoyed the Ford more than we did in the first event in Kenya. We managed to check the challenges we had, I believe by the third event we will be 50% adapted to the car,” Yasin told Kawowo Sports.
Duncan Mubiru’s spirit to chase the win was limited after a mechanical glitch in the penultimate stage ended all his hopes. He eventually dropped to third position with Ronald Sebuguzi elevating to the second position.
Hassan Alwi settled for fourth position while reigning National ally champion Byron Rugomoka sealed the top five positions.
Ibrahim Lubega opened his two-wheel drive title chase with victory followed by Mansoor Lubega and Umar Kakyama in third.
The second round of the national rally championship heads to Eastern Uganda next month.
