- Kenya Cup (Women) Final:
- Mwamba Ladies vs Impala Saracens
- Date: Saturday, March 11 at 3 p.m.
- Venue: Impala Club, Nairobi.
Uganda Lady Rugby Cranes internationals Yvonne Najjuma and Peace Lekuru have, this Friday morning, been named on Mwamba Ladies’ starting lineup for the Kenya Cup final.
The news that the two would feature in the competition was first reported by Geoffrey Anene on March 3, 2023, as “other developments” at the bottom of a story in the Nation (Kenya’s equivalent of the Daily Monitor).
But across the border, that was big and exciting news, especially coming after the conclusion of the Central Region Women’s Championship last weekend.
Najjuma and Lekuru will form the midfield partnership against Impala Saracens tomorrow afternoon at the Impala Club in Nairobi city. It will be a repeat of last year’s inaugural Kenya Cup final which Mwamba won by 15-11.
“We are happy to welcome them back. It is a big morale booster as they will reinforce our midfield. They are the engine. They missed the last three matches while in Uganda.”
Mwamba Ladies coach Joseph Baabu Odindi said to the Nation.
Other Ugandans that have plied their trade in Kenya include Samiya Ayikoru (Mwamba) and Angella Zziwa (Northern Suburbs).
Kabras’ Emong, Mugerwa set for Kenya Cup (Men) final
On the other hand, Uganda Rugby Cranes will also have two internationals in the men’s Kenya Cup final. Lock Eliphaz Emong will start while prop Asuman Mugerwa will come off the bench when their team Kabras take on KCB Rugby at Kakamega.
Like Mwamba, Kabras are also defending champions having beaten Menengai Oilers in the final last year by 35-28.
The match will kick off at 3 p.m. at the Kakamega Show Grounds.
