Alex Isabirye takes charge of training at Vipers Credit: Vipers SC

Tuesday fixtures

  • Wakiso Giants vs Vipers โ€“ Wakissha 4pm
  • Bright Stars vs Kiyinda Boys โ€“ Kavumba 4pm

Alex Isabirye will take charge of his first game as Vipers coach when the Venoms visit Wakiso Giants in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16.

The former centre forward was named Vipers coach on Sunday a day after leading BUL to a 1-0 win over SC Villa in the same competition.

The gaffer has spoken highly of the quality at his disposal and revealed what he ought to do to lift the side that has not scored a goal in seven matches on the bounce.

โ€œI met them (players) just yesterday but it was as if I have been with them for weeks,โ€ he told the club media.

ย โ€œI know most of them and they know me as well but will sit down with the technical staff that has been with them for longer to come up with the strategy to win the game against Wakiso Giants.

โ€œFor me, the main job is to change the mentality and attitude of the players because they are already quality.โ€

In Wakiso Giants, Isabirye and Vipers face a formidable opponent who they have drawn twice with already this season.

The hosts are buoyed by the return of the U-20 trio of Titus Ssematimba, Ronald Madoi and Apollo Kagogwe who have missed all the clubโ€™s games this year while on national duty including the goalless draw at Kitende a couple of weeks ago.

But Moses Aliro and Frank Ssebuufu are doubts through injury and could miss out.

Vipers are to miss Milton Karisa, Murushid Jjuuko and Marvin Youngman through injury but are boosted by the return of playmaker Bright Anukani who missed the trip to Simba last week.

Key Stats

  • This will be the second time Wakiso Giants are facing a topflight side after they eliminated Blacks Power in the previous round.
  • Vipers are winless in 180 minutes of football in the competition but advanced to the stage winning penalty shootouts against Bujumbura United and Jinja North United.
  • This will be the second meeting between the two sides in the competition after last seasonโ€™s clash which the Venoms edged 3-1 at Wakissha.

Elsewhere on the afternoon, Soltilo Bright Stars takes on Buganda Regional side Kiyinda Boys at Kavumba.
