NEC’s ambitions to earn promotion to Uganda Premier League faced a big blow on Thursday after a surprising loss to Luweero United.

The Army side came into today’s game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Kitara and needed a quick return to the rails.

However, the Bugolobi-based outfit instead was humbled by relegation-threatened Luweero United in the game played at Kasana Playground.

Isaac Balyejjusa and Arafat Ssentongo scored a goal each in the first half to guide the home side to victory despite attempts by NEC to stage a comeback.

NEC, therefore, remain fourth on the table with 37 points, six behind leaders Kitara FC who won 2-0 against Kataka FC.

Luweero United on the other hand move to 25 points and consequently out of the drop zone.
