Andrew Owor

Outgoing Rugby Africa vice-present Andrew Owor is running for the continental body’s top seat at the elective general assembly happening on Saturday in Cape Town, South Africa.

Owor will be up against the incumbent Khaled Babbou and Ghana Rugby Union president Herbert Mensah. He was nominated by Uganda Rugby Union (URU) where he served as president for two terms until 2019.

This will be the first time in its history that Rugby Africa holds contested elections. The president, and the rest of the executive committee, will serve for a period of four years commencing immediately after the results are announced.

In an exclusive interview with Kawowo Sports, Owor shares his ambitious vision for African rugby which includes introducing a U20 tournament for girls, a continental sevens series for Africa, and turning Rugby Africa’s tournaments into more sustainable commercial products.
