Uganda won by 138 runs

Cricket Cranes head coach Lawrence Mahatlane asked for a response from his team after defeat in the first ODI against hosts Qatar and he couldn’t have gotten a better response than a huge 138 runs win.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first but never got off to a great start, losing Roger Mukasa and Ronak Patel to single-digit scores which left Uganda 41/3 inside the opening 10 overs.

The repair work was done by a man who was due a knock Kenneth Waiswa (39) and Riazat Ali Shah (25) who combined for 61 for the fourth wicket.

Pascal Murungi came and left without bothering the scorers much but another player due a knock Cyrus Kakuru (60 not out) put his hand up and anchored the innings till the end. He got support from the tail of old man about town Frank Nsubuga (22) and Captain Brian Masaba (39) as the visitors posted 238/9 in their 50 overs.

The most improved performance for the Cricket Cranes was with the ball as they skittled out the hosts for just 98 runs. Waiswa (3/9) and Henry Ssenyondo (2/9) were among the wickets with good support from Riazat Ali Shah (2/17) and Cosmas Kyewuta (1/25) as the Cricket Cranes levelled the series 1-1.

Left arm slow bowler Alpesh Ramjani, batter Ronald Lutaaya and Juma Miyagi were the players who missed out today.

There is little time to celebrate the win as the Cricket Cranes will be in action tomorrow for the third ODI against the hosts.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
