Overview:
Footballer Steven McManaman is a former Liverpool Football Club player (1990 – 1999). He was a tricky and exciting winger. During his nine years’ tenure at Liverpool Football Club, he won the FA Cup and League Cup.
Former England and Liverpool midfielder Steven “Macca” McManaman, 51, graced the official opening of the Uganda official Liverpool Supporters Club Football League – UGKOP League.
This was during his recent visit in the country at Fast Sports Fusion Bugolobi in Kampala city.
The league has eight teams named after several Liverpool greats, retired and the active players.
These teams include; Macca, King Kenny, VVD, Salah, Steven Gerald, Firmino, Hendo and Klopp.
On the day McManaman was in the country, Team Macca opened with an impressive seven goals for the league that will run for 8 months.

“I am happy to be in this beautiful country Uganda and meet all the wonderful people. It is always a pleasure to meet passionate Liverpool Football Club fans all over the world. It shows how soccer is a universal language that unites people from all walks of life” McManaman who later played at Real Madrid and Manchester City stated.
McManaman is a former Liverpool Football Club player (1990 – 1999). He was a tricky and exciting winger.
During his nine years’ tenure at Liverpool Football Club, he won the FA Cup and League Cup.
Individually, he was the Premier League’s top assist provider for 1995 – 1996 season and was named in the PFA Team of the Year for 1996 – 1997 season.
UG-KOP in conjunction with Standard Charttered Bank Uganda with support from Liverpool Football Club hosted LFC Legend Steve McManaman on the 7th October 2023.


McManaman graced the “Road to Anfield” tournament and also witnessed the inaugural UG-KOP League at Fast Sports Fusion Bugolobi.
UG-KOP / OLSCUG has previously hosted LFC Legends like Robbie Fowler, Luis Garcia and John Barnes.
Upon his historic visit to Uganda, he was warmly welcomed at Entebbe International Airport by the Standard Chartered Bank Managing Director Sanjay Rughani.

MacWilliam Edward Mbonye, the president of the Liverpool fans club of Uganda lauded McManaman for sparing time off his busy and tight schedule to meet the fans.
Like the Liverpool motto goes,” We never walk alone” , we are now walking the talk with the presence of the legend but also still echoing our charity campaign to help those in need and not stop at meetings and watch our club play,” Mbonye remarked.

Meanwhile, Steel & Tube team won the treasured slot to Anfield, the home of Liverpool after a grueling gala that also included the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) team at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo, Kampala city.
Samuel Kasozi notched a brace that inspired Steel & Tube over Cfao Motors in the epic finale.
