The official launch of the NCBA Kids Golf tournament at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Kigo

The NCBA Juniors Golf open in Uganda is expected to bring together over 200 junior Golfers, representing over a dozen nationalities.

More than 200 junior golfers, representing over a dozen nationalities will participate in the 2024 NCBA Uganda Juniors Open slated for 31st March to 1st April 2024 at the breathe-taking Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Kigo.

This event is aimed at enhancing integrity, friendship, discipline and self-esteem among the juniors with the best performers qualifying for the Rome Classic in Italy and the Big 5 Championship in South Africa.

In continuation with their commitment to the sport of Golf in Uganda and the region, NCBA Bank has announced sponsorship to the tune of Shs. 80,000,000 (in cash and kind).

The event was first launched in 2021 and subsequently in 2022 and several tournaments were held in Uganda and Kenya.

The Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa will host this year’s event in partnership with US Kids Golf as part of initiatives to groom Africa’s next generation of golfers.

The tournament follows the US Kids Golf World Championship format whereby juniors play different yardages based on their age group and also use it as a qualifier to represent their nations at our global affiliate events.

The tournament is crafted to prepare the young generation for greatness in future tournaments in Uganda, the region and indeed globally, in line with NCBA’s ethos of Go For It!  

It is also in line with NCBA’s belief that the uniqueness and sportsmanship in golf have the potential to enhance integrity, friendship, discipline and self-esteem in African communities.

The event is expected to bring together over 200 junior Golfers, representing over a dozen nationalities.

The best golfers from the competition would secure a place in the Rome Classic in Italy and the Big Five South Africa Tournament.

It is also an opportunity to enable children to learn the rules and etiquette of golf, aimed at improving their social, psychological, and physical attributes.

As we continue to pursue Greatness, the first tournament this year will be held at the end of March with Junior Golfers flying in from across the world for the three-day event at Serena Kigo Golf Club with NCBA Bank as the lead Sponsors, having injected more than UGX.80M in cash and prizes.

Muyobo encouraged as many Junior Golfers as possible to register to be part of this global event.

Director of Golf at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa Theo Van Rooyen noted that the juniors will utilize this tournament to accumulate points for the US Kids tournament.

“The NCBA golf open will present juniors from across Africa and elsewhere. This is a big opportunity to get points for the US Kids tournament. The tournament will be divided into age groups from 6 to 17 years. This is a great tournament for the development of the children,” Rooyen stated.

Moses Matisko, President of Uganda Golf Union (UGU) lauded the program that he tagged as a game changer.

“The UG Kids Junior Golf program is very important. It is a game changer for many children. I thanked the different sponsors and parents for the encouragement and endless support of their children to learn and play the game of golf. UGU will provide the technical support,” Matisko noted.

William Mpuugu, the in-charge of marketing at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, was gratified for the US Kids Golf tournament organizers, NCBA and other sponsors.

Mpuungu announced a discount for parents and children who will play at the tournament.

“We express our gratitude for the US Kids Golf organizers to have this tournament here in Uganda at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa. We thank the main sponsors NCBA Bank and the other partners for making this happen. We shall have a special discount on accommodation for the players and parents during the tournament,” Mpuungu stated.

Besides NCBA Bank, the other partners on board are Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, ICEA Lion Insurance and many others coming up.
