In many circumstances, everyone has an opinion or prime where he/she would opt for a nominee on an award.
Many will not consider or agree with the bitter truth that 2011 USPA rugby player Justin Kimono could not net the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) 2011 Most Valuable Player accolade at the annual body’s gala last night.
For the few who kept the eyes off the 20-year old were not surprised by Entebbe Mongers’ Andrew Olweny’s triumph, owing to his performance in last year’s Bamburi super series.
Kimono’s miss to the MVP crown means his run through the ranks to the top only went unnoticed, perhaps it could have been forgotten.
MTN Heathens’ Brian Tabaruka notched the best coach award, after securing 69 out of the 70 league points in his run to their third successive title last year. Another MTN Heathens player, Jonathan Onen Bishop took the top try scorer honor.
Asha Nakityo, the female USPA 2011 rugby player again snatched the female MVP award, beating the National team captain Charlotte Mudoola to the crown.
Phillip Wokorach, a senior six student at Hana Mixed School and a full back at Nile Premier league side, Toyota Buffaloes got the upcoming male player honor which has been evidently seen in this year’s league, not forgetting his incredible displays in schools’ rugby last year.
Daily Monitor and Channel 44’s Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo took the best journalist award in Ugandan rugby last year after making it to the narrow down close to four stints.
