Scottish side Hearts offload Obua in clear out

Four year’s of successful football with Scottish side Hearts FC will come to an end for eccentric former Uganda Cranes international David Obua when this season comes to a close as the side have decided not to offer him a new contract.

“We’d like to thank David for his services to the club during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” said a Hearts spokesperson on their official

club website. He will not be the only player that will be leaving the club as they start a massive clear out ahead of the new season 2012/2013. Others leaving include five young players – Aaron Murdoch, Chris Tobin, Ryan Stewart, Colin Hamilton and Matthew Park – are also on the look-out for new clubs after being told their contracts won’t be renewed this summer.

Obua joined the side in 2008 with the arrival of former Cranes coach Laszlo Csaba, who made him his first signing although it took time for the Ugandan left footed midfielder to settle into Scottish football. He later improved under the eyes of Jim Jefferies. Before signing for the SPL side he had a trial with East London side West Ham United, but opted for Scotland.

He will be remembered for scoring the first goal of this year’s season when he headed his side Hearts to a surprise lead against Glasgow Rangers with the two side’s settling for a 1-all draw.

In his time at the Edinburgh based side he scored six goals and was primarily used on the left side of midfield although several times he played as a striker. He joined the Scottish premier league from South African giants Kaizer Chiefs where he won the championship and South African Player of the Year in season 2006–07.

It has been reported that the former Ugandan international has been in talks with undisclosed Qatar side.
