Flavia Namakula has to attack the ladies golf tour

Uganda ladies open champion Flavia Namakula, might have to find greener pastures on the golf circuit if she is to use her full potential.

Namakula, retained the 58 edition of the Ladies Open for a second year running, but was advised by her challenger Claire Minter from Zimbabwe to start playing tournaments out of Uganda.

“I was told by Minter that am

a good player and even when I drop shots on the course enroute to my victory she said I have alot of potential to do well and I need to play with other top players to take my game to another level,” Namakula said during her speech at the awards ceremony. “I would love to play out of the country, but all depends on sponsorship which is hard to get and God willing I hope to get that.”Namakula claimed her second major with an aggregate score of 223 thus beating Tanzanian Madina Iddi by five strokes to claim the Uganda Open title at Uganda Golf Club yesterday.

Claire Minter and Iddi Madina, gave the Ugandan ace golfer a run in the final rounds and this is due to them playing on the Ladies Golf tour on the continent. Namakula will now need to seek for corporate sponsorship to make attain her goals of being a top lady golfer for Uganda on the tour.

Namakula’s five-shot lead on the opening day made the difference in the highly tournament that saw competitors from Zimbabawe, Tanzania and Uganda record impressive scores. Iddi and Namakula had uniform scores in the second and third rounds.
Namakula has been dominant on the local scene and has run out of challengers who can take her game to another level. She paid tribute to her challengers at this year’s open that is Iddi Madina from Tanzania and Minter together with Eva Magala for pushing her all the way in a closely contested three day tournament that was sponsored by Pepsi Cola, Rwenzori Water,Nile Breweries and MTN.
