Reigning league champions URA F.C continue to show they are ready to defend their title after thumping visiting Bidco F.C 4-1 in a super league game played at Lugazi municipal stadium this evening. A brace from leading scorer Robert Ssentongo and a goal a piece from Hamis Kitagenda and Moses Feni Ali gave the tax collectors the much need three points. The defending champions now move to 37 points from 16 games.
At Kakindu, a 25th minute strike from Rashid Kyambadde was enough to guide Masaka L.C past home side Victors F.C. The win lifts Masaka to fifth place on 25 points from 17 games played.
At Bombo, players’ fight for a pay rise and other rights hit hard on Express F.C as Coach Sam Ssimbwa only had to travel with seven players for the encounter with Simba as the rest were on a sit down strike fuelled by the Uganda Footballers Association.
The game had to be stopped after merely 20 minutes following an injury that forced one of the visiting players not to play again. The rule stipulates that a game can only continue if the minimum players on the pitch are seven.
At Wankulukuku stadium, host team UTODA F.C didn’t appear and visitors Bunamwaya sc are destined to take all the three points but only waiting for referee’s report. Their absence is also attributed to a players’ sit down strike.
At Nakivubo, drama ensued as Fire Masters players who had reported to take on SC. Villa abandoned their team to join the striking super league comrades. Despite this being a general consensus, Villa players were ready to play and refused to join the strike. They instead conducted their sessions at the stadium.
Chaos almost broke as fans that had turned up for the game wanted to fight the players who were striking in the covered stands at Nakivubo. Only police saved the blushes and the stadium management had to let the players out via the unusual exit of the Kisenyi gate.
At least no Villa, Masaka, Bunamwaya, Victors, Bidco, Hoima-Busia or URA player was seen at the players’ would be conference that was being addressed by chairman Dan Walusimbi. The rest of the clubs had representatives.
Speaking to Mujib Kasule, he stated that all clubs that have not played yet had to will lose the points including Express F.C who played for 20 minutes before calamity hit.
