Water humbles bunamwaya ahead of league derby

Bunamwaya’s hopes of winning their second league title were shattered by Water FC after 2-1 loss at the Prison’s grounds in Luzira. Striker Tony Odur had given the Buikwe based side the lead as early as 8 minutes. After a long ball by Kizito Luwaga, Odur controlled with his right before slotting the ball through the legs of Water’s custodian Didi Mohamed with the other.

It was after that goal the Bunamwaya got the pedal off the accelerator. And they were punished in the 40th minute when Joseph Kayira’s cross from the right found unmarked Faial Umar to make it 1-1. The second half commenced on a low

note for Bunamwaya as Martin Muwanga was shown marching orders for pacing on Mike Masabe who was already on the ground.

On form Caesar Okhuti tried to carry the team shoulder high and his effort from a set piece on 50 minutes that was parried over the bar by Didi stands out. On 54 minutes Water coach Charles Ayiekho introduced Joseph Bukenya for Umar Faisal. The midfielder repaid his coaches’ faith six minutes later with a long range wonder strike which turned out to be the game winner. If only custodian of the day Joseph sebuliba had not left his line maybe the score board would have read otherwise.

Murushid Juuko was introduced for Luwaga in the 63rd minute and Edgar Luzige came on for right back Nicholas Wadada five minutes later but still the host out muscled, out competed and out ran Bunamwaya who did everything in their power to salvage a point but all in vain.

With eight games of the league remaining, Bunamwaya sit third, four points behind table leaders Express who have played two games more. Next up for Bunamwaya is a trip to face Express at Wankulukuku before a potential showdown at home to Simba.

WHAT THEY SAID
Bunamwaya assistant coach – Richard Waswa: “My players have many back to back games (8 in 26 days) and you could see signs of fatigue, but Water is not an easy side and I congratulate them for giving us a run for our money ”
Water FC coach – Charles Ayiekho: “I have been urging my boys to utilize their chances and they were hungry from the onset, so for me the difference was in who made use of his chances positively,”
