Jas Mangat on Sunday moved closer to clinching this year’s national title after winning the Eastern Motor Club Championship held in Jinja yesterday.

The fast but steady rally ace put up a brilliant display in his Subaru N12 posting 1:13.24 to finish ahead of Ronald Ssebuguzi who came in second with 1:15.52.

The win means that Mangat who tops the NRC standings with 383 points is just 30 points away from dethroning defending champion Susan Muwonge whose failure to complete the race yesterday due to her machine break down in the last section meant she can’t defend her title.

Nasser Mutebi and Duncan Mubiru also rolled their Subaru N11 and Subaru N14 respectively to curtail their chances of claiming the national title. Returning Shafik Ssemujju came fourth in his Subaru N11 posting 1:23.06 while John Consta finished in the top three posting 1:17.19.
