He attained his childhood dream, becoming a football commentator. This came after Bruce Turyamubona beat three other contestants in Musa Mwanje, Herbert Kiwendo and Steve Mayanja to win this year’s SuperSport ‘Tabira Endiba’, a Luganda football commentator search at Golf Course Hotel on Thursday night. And having gained the victory, Turyamubona, a farmer from Uganda’s central district of Mubende dreams to commentate a live game of the Uganda Cranes playing at the World Cup.
“I would love to commentate Uganda Cranes’ matches at the World Cup,” he said in ecstasy. “I am sure this dream will come to pass one day,” Turyamubona powered to victory and attributes his success to South African idols Thomas Mlambo and Robert Marawa, all working with SuperSport. “My dream was to meet them and I am sure it has come to pass.”
The final four were reached upon after a two-month energy supping exercise to both the over 900 contestants and the four judges – Mark Ssali (SuperSport commentator), Aisha Nassanga (sports scribe with Capital FM – Kampala), Ruben Luyombo (sports analyst on Super FM) and Innocent Tegusulwa (sports analyst with Bukedde TV).
The four judges watched hundreds of commentary clips from the contestants before zeroing them down to top 16, then eight, and four before Turyamubona beat Mayanja when it came down to the final two. Turyamubona will now be signed onto a contract with SuperSport and will be doing Luganda – a local dialect – commentary for USL matches starting with the ongoing 2012/13 season.
