Rwanda 0-2 Tanzania
Tanzania became the first team to storm the semi-finals of Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup after beating Amavubi of Rwanda 2-0 in the first quarter final played at Lugogo on Monday afternoon.
Tanzania scored through Amiir Kiemba and John Raphael Bocco in the first and second half respectively.
Following a slow start to the game by both teams, Taifa stars took the first half lead through Amiir Kiemba in the 34th minute.
The Tanzania number 9 tapped in easily Mwinyi Kazimoto’s low cross from the left after the midfielder had done the necessary work beating the Rwanda defence with his trickery.
From then on, Tanzania dominated proceedings and should have added a second goal moment later but danger man Mrisho Ngassa failed to connect to Kevin Yodan’s cross from the left.
After recess, John Raphael Bocco stretched Tanzania’s lead in the 54th minute following a howler from Rwanda goalie Jean Claude Ndori.
Ndori spilled Kazimoto’s fierce shot from over 35 yards into Bocco’s path who made no mistake but put the ball into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the campaign.
Despite a late surge from Rwanda, Tanzania rear guard manned by Kevin Yodan and Shomari Kapombe.
Tanzania meets the winner between hosts Uganda and Ethiopia in the semi-finals on Thursday.
