Team Uganda can finish the first round of the Pepsi ICC Africa Division I T20 tourney unscathed if they defeat Botswana on Monday afternoon at Lugogo.
The hosts still hold a 100% record in this tournament having beaten Tanzania by nine wickets to make three in three at Kyambogo Oval on Sunday morning.
“We are rushing anything. We have to take each game as it comes,” Ugandan skipper Davis Karashani told Kawowo Sports.
Karashani is so far the best bowler having picked figures of 7/47 from 12 overs.
Against Tanzania, he picked 2/14 as Uganda’s unfriendly bowling unit limited the southern neighbours to 62 runs for the loss nine wickets.
Uganda chased that score in just 9.1 overs with Arthur Kyobe’s 34 off 20 balls (not out) and Roger Mukasa’s 22 off 14.
Prior to the start of the tournament, coach Martin Suji had already said Botswana is a new side but it can take advantage of that and suprise.
“I cannot rule out anything so we are not undermining anyone,”
“Every ball, wicket, run scored counts.” Suji added.
Meanwhile Botswana manager Razal Sheriff thinks they can do harm to the favourites Kenya and Uganda despite losing it late to Tanzania and Nigeria.
“We had some mistakes and things did not go away,” Sheriff said.
“Uganda are at home but we have nothing much to fear. My boys still have something they can do so we should not be written off.”
Botswana captain Karabo Modise is so far the leading batsman with 114 from three innings with a top score of 86 off 64 balls against Nigeria.
