Tunisia 0-0Cameroon

1990 World Cup quarterfinalists Cameroon were lucky to salvage a barren draw in the first leg of the final round of the 2014 World Cup qualifier match against Tunisia in Rades.

The former Africa Champions were second best for most parts of the game and will have

Turkish based goalkeeper Charles Itandje to thank after he made several sparkling saves.

It took him less than a minute to deny the Carthage Eagles an early lead after he blocked Yassine Chikhaoui’s shot inside ten seconds.

Four minutes later, Itandje was again on hand to save Houcine Ragued’s low shot after the Indomitable Lions rearguard was caught off guard.

The ex-Liverpool goalie was once again called to save the visitor’s blushes with a tip over the bar to frustrate Wissem Ben Yahia and again Chikhaoui’s brilliant header.

Nevertheless, Cameroon also had chances to increase the hosts’ frustration but failed to put them away. First, Jean Makouni missed from close range after a good through ball from returning skipper Samuel Eto’o and then Pierre Webo who couldn’t fire home while on the near post.

After the goalless draw, the scores will have to be settled in Yaoundé on November 17 when Cameroon hosts the return leg.
