Caf Champions League 1st Leg Preliminary round

EL Merrickh (Sudan) 0-2 KCC FC (Uganda)

Uganda Cranes Sudan based midfielder Joseph Kabagambe has praised KCC FC following their performance against El Merrickh in the first leg of the Caf Champions leg preliminary round.

Uganda’s representatives stunned Sudan champions El Merrickh in Khartoum stadium with a 2-0 defeat thanks to first half strikes from Herman Wasswa and Tony Odur.

Kabagambe who plies his trade with El Merrickh Fasher is Sudan told Kawowo Sports that KCC FC were without doubt the deserved winners of the clash.

“KCC FC employed better tactics,” said Kabagambe. “They parked the midfield which the hosts failed to break and kept the ball well,” he added.

The ex-SC Villa winger singled out Tony Odur and custodian Jamal Salim as his best performers on the day.

“Odur and Salim were outstanding. The former held the ball well upfront and patiently waited for midfielders to play as KCC FC launched attacks on the counter while the latter made crucial saves including a Pascal Wawa penalty”.

Kabagambe also reserved special applause for the two goals the Lugogo based side scored.

“They were well planned and beautiful goals. Wasswa’s shot on the edge of the six yard was a joy to watch while Odur’s shot on the run for the second was also brilliant,” Kabagambe said.

When asked what to expect in the return leg to be played next Saturday at Namboole, Kabagambe said that KCC FC is as good as through to the next stage but must not get complacent following victory in Khartoum.

“It will be hard for El Merrickh to overturn the results in Kampala but in football it’s never over till it’s over.”

KCC FC host the return leg on Saturday February 15 at Namboole needing just a draw to reach the first round.
