Rwanda’s Kigali Golf Club, beat Entebbe Club to claim the annual golf challenge that is contested between the two clubs last Saturday at the par-18 Kigali golf course in Nyarutarama.
The Kigali team entered a team of 40 players including five ladies entered the one day tournament with a total of 716 nett while the visitors completed with a nett score of 807.
Entebbe club had previously won last year’s edition, but could not retain the revolving trophy that was claimed by the hosts who now have a 2-1 record over their visitors having also won the inaugural event in 2012.
The visitors fielded a side of 35 golfers with three ladies with Maxi Byenkya winning the overall ladies trophy with a nett score of 76.
The host club’s Taylor Koonce, who was playing on Group 2 and Lee Kang in Group 3, had the best score in the first leg of 68 Nett each, while Innocent Rutamu won Group 1 with 75 Nett.
The event was sponsored by East African Breweries Limited with Nakumatt, Nika Printers and Forever Active Boost energy drink as the co-sponsors.
The idea of this challenge between the two clubs, which started in 2012 with the first edition, was aimed at creating an inter-club reciprocation which entitles members of either club unlimited benefits when they travel to each other’s course.
Kigali hosted and won the first edition in 2012 and Entebbe won last year’s edition at their home course.
However, unlike the previous two editions, for this year, the winner will be determined after the return leg which will be played in June at the Entebbe Club.
