Oribe Peralta scored the only goal of the game as Mexico beat African representatives Cameroon in a group A game played on Friday.

The striker was at hand to score from a rebound after Giovan Dos Santos shot was parried in Peralta’s path by goalie Charles Itandje.

The Mexicans were twice denied leads controversially by the match officials but fully deserved the victory after a gallant performance that saw the side attack with class and defended resiliently too.

The win was Mexico’s first in history against an African side in the World Cup whilst Cameroon’s poor run in the finals now stretched to eight games without victory.

Brazil leads the group following the 3-1 win over Croatia in the opener while Mexico lie second.

The two face each other in the next game while Croatia entertains The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
